Fathers Take The Hit!

Yep that’s what these recent years have been
And I know it doesn’t seem fit
But no matter how far we’ve come in time
Father’s simply aren’t a hit!

They’re still ignored in crucial years
When they need to feel they’re seen
But bit by bit they fade away
Until they’re nothing but a dream

Forgotten birthdays
And definitely Father’s Day
Who needs them anyway?

If you’re a dad, you best be ready, steady, go
Find your own Idaho
Drown in your own sorrow

Especially when your kids’ age
Starts with a 1 and
Ends with a number
That’s bigger than two or three

When those years come
Go find your own chum
And wallow together
Over pints of rum

Worse if those kids
Are boys themselves
But hey weren’t you the same
When you were their age? (so I tell myself)

But that’s the lot
We signed up for
When first we decided to
Be dads and more

My conclusion after 16 years?
Fathers are built to take the hit
Fathers aren’t built to be a hit
That’s the fact dude
So live with it!
