Sonnet #2 — “Beware the Ides of March!”

Beware the ides of March
So Shakespeare’s Caesar was warned
Yet like him we fell right into
Another bloodbath wrought on us all

The month of March 2022 is almost gone
Still that warning we heeded not
Just look at the war now raging on
Shakespeare would have keeled over with nary a son-net

Pray tell how will history remember us
A generation that let things slide?
Believing the politics of inevitability
Like an ostrich’s head in sand we hide?

Oh forgive us Lord Shakespeare our naivete, our crutch
Ignoring your warning “Beware the Ides of March!”
