A sudden fear
A sudden fear I can’t explain
Of devices, gadgets
Even my son’s toy train
A dawning realization: None of them are humane!
A sudden fear I can’t explain
Rushed over me yesterday
For too long now they’ve held sway
Over our daily lives, these machines
Without any restraints
How did we let these technologies hold court?
Without any filter, restrictions that really ought
To keep us in power
To keep us in control
We’ve surrendered it all
Letting them run amok
Over every facet of our lives, never once questioning why
Are we really so obtuse
As to think they are neutral?
That it’s merely a matter of how we use them
For good or for evil?
When in fact the algorithms
Are powerful brainwashers
Changing our minds by the second and ruling our lives.
Let’s wake up now before it’s too late
Keep these time-sucking devices firmly at bay
Use them only when we need to play
Don’t let them tether us to ball and chain
If not my sudden fear will doubtlessly remain
And rapidly grow with each innovation
Imprisoning us with its bells and ping notifications
Enslaving us forever to pay the heftiest price: LIFE!
