The Sign Of These Times
This chapter suddenly closes
And I still have no idea why
Was I really that loud?
Did it sound more like a shout?
But 22 years have come and gone
I don’t remember seeing such a call
To have me pipe down a decibel or more
Suddenly the students are keeping score
And you said my eyes rolled at you in derision?
Did not you behave out of step leading me to indignation?
I could have lashed out if we were still in the old days
But now I’m just…old. And Gen Z voices hold sway
[Even management scrambles to throw petals your way!]
So time for me to say goodbye
I knew this time would soon come
Just not this soon
But then, what do old fogeys like me know?
So it’s goodbye
With no reason or rhyme
Save my above speculation of
The sign of these times.
