What Will My Writing Look Like In 2026?

Happy New Year!

It’s been over a month now since I took my annual year-end writing break. But something’s a little different about this recent hiatus.

I didn’t miss writing as much as before!

Blogging consistently over the past eight years, I’ve always looked forward to a new year of creating and writing whenever January arrives. As time passed, I started believing that writing is part of my DNA, something I can’t do without on a weekly basis, if not daily.

Yet this time around, I managed to go through not one, not two, but five weeks without once feeling the urge to type out a poem or an essay.

This has never happened before!

What does it mean? Is it a case of eight (years) is enough? Am I to finally hang up my writing quill? Have I lost my writing mojo?

Or maybe I’ve got “better” things to do.

Looking after my wife as she continues her ongoing fight with cancer. Keeping tabs on my kids as they enter new phases in their academic journeys. Looking for more paid work and opportunities to save for rainy days. Figuring out what my life ought to be before I turn the big six-0 in 2030, which is barely four years away.

Ahhh…that last bit. How else can I figure it out except through writing?!

Right?

Whew…I’ve regained my raison d’etre for keeping my writing burning!

Right?

Or is this me typing feverishly just to shake off the writing blues and regain my former writing “glory”? To chase down my writing self before it disappears completely?

Or maybe it’s some valiant attempt to discover a whole other writing stance for the brand new year?

Which brings me to this first post of the new year.

What will my writing look like in 2026?

Aside from my blog’s cornerstone content which remains unchanged — autism, parenting, writing, and life — I also desire to write more to evaluate and advocate for themes and issues close to my heart: education, creative arts (especially films and books), communication, technology, society & culture, spirituality, and health & wellness.

Whew again…looks like I’m finding back my writing mojo for the new year just in time!

The challenge, of course, is how much of all these topics can I hustle and produce in the next 12 months?! And will they be evidence I’m writing better than ever?

We shall have to see now won’t we, 2026?

Oh, One More Thing For The New Year

I’m also trying something I’ve never done before.

Starting with my last post of 2025, I’ve added a “support me” button. This is for anyone who reads and likes my writing enough to encourage me with a financial donation of any amount.

You’re probably wondering why am I, after all this time, “monetising” my writing now? Have I gone over to the ‘dark side’ of commercialism?

The short answer is “no”.

But the long answer is this: I’m curious just how impactful is my writing to readers? To find out, I think one of the most indisputable ways is to put up a donation button and see what happens.

Let’s go with both answers for now.

Meantime, dear reader, how about you? What’s going to look different for you in 2026?

Be this new year the same for you as last year or not, here’s me wishing you once again…

Happy New Year!
