Kollupitiya Ocean Train
Waking up to the ebb and flow
The pounding waves that throw
Suds and white knuckles at the beach
Inches from the rails that are almost within reach
I hear, then see, the next train
Drawing ever near
What a rush to my senses!
All heightened and defenseless
I must confess this is my first time
Seeing the train kiss the ocean tide
I didn’t know it was possible
An ocean train
Perilously close
To off-loading its bewildered passengers
Into the deep deep blue
Suddenly I recalled that maybe that’s what happened
In 2004 that tsunami destruction
But this train this ocean
Still together. Unceasingly open
Daring the other to go the distance
Drawing us hypnotically to their final destination
As the sun scales up and shines brightly onto the day
I find my fascination in the clearer light completely held sway
By this nature vs man scene playing before me every fifteen minutes
I’m enchanted. Enraptured.
Flabbergasted!
Who would have thought there’s such a thing as
An ocean train chugging merrily along?
Captivating this audience and swelling my morning song
I wish oh I wish I wasn’t leaving
Kollupitiya.
