My Monday Metrical Musings #200

Another Milestone

I just want to state for the record
That 200 is no mean feat
I’ve pushed out these ditties for so long
Would hate to go out in defeat

Many were the times I thought
“Rhyming couplets”? Who does that anymore?
How kiddish my poems must sound to others
Yet every single one’s mine to call

I’ve tried to read and emulate the greats
And even some poets who were only so-so
I thought only published poems deserve
To be studied and copied and followed

But I’ve learned when I face challenges
To express myself creatively
The answer is to double down some more
On my own voice and resist steadfastly

To admire and worship other writers
For we’re each a unique individual
The world wants my (and your) unusual take
They want our special wisdom pearl

So starting from now I don’t care
I will write the next 200 or more ditties
In my own blend, my own manner
For they are my sweet spot, my pretties!
