Population Decline
It seems unending
These troubled times
Of parenting my child now
Like I did in 2009
Yet I need to remember
The better times
When love was rich
Deep and sublime
Those were the days
Of joy and gladness
Teach us to see them again
Today and forever
For what hope is there
If the next generation
Believes it to be a burden
To sire for expansion
Our fragile human race
With our numbers a-fallin’
We need a serious reset
To reverse what’s appallin’
Or face the prospect
That we’ll soon be over-run
By everything except humans
Underneath a waning sun

Oh, the refreshed Singapore dream
What’s in it for you and me
More incentives to boost our numbers
Or more restrain to curb the identity erosion
Can we afford to slow down
Or must we strive for more
Will our next generation feel more burdened
Or will they break the curse and forge a new path
As we continue nose to the grindstone day in day out
Let’s do what we can to contribute
To the refreshed Singapore dream
And to the Mighty Red Dot
