Playback Theatre (Part 2)
I promised I would, so here I am
To share what I learned with you again
In this sequel to what I wrote last week
If you missed it, just click here for a quick peek
Over three days I learned words used in Playback
But more so I re-learned how my body reacts
Each time I stretch and reach with my body and limb
To display different emotions without busting my shin
I learned what are “fluid sculptures”, “tableaux” and “choruses”
I learned of non/short/long/elevated narratives
In Playback it’s all about Flexibility. Improv. Attention.
Four actors (or three or five). One (story) “Teller”. One Director. One Musician.
My inner “drama-papa” that’s laid dormant for a decade
Was given space to emerge last week and take centre stage
What joy to know I can still call forth laughs or tears
To strike a pose and vogue and do so without fears
Be curious. Don’t judge. It’s okay to be unsure or fail.
Be willing to try. Forgive yourself and others along the trail
Towards creating safe spaces to honour another’s tale.
Trust the process. Listen and find others’ Holy Grail
Words to the above effect kept ringing in my ears
And I’m so grateful because it’s saving me years
Of ignoring, sidelining or forgetting others’ hurts and jeers
All for the sake of evolving, transcending, changing atmospheres.
So now I hope your curiosity has been aroused
To explore Playback Theatre and all that it’s about
Because it’s a great portal to soul-searching and calling out
Every emotion. Every feeling. Every joy.
Let ’em shout!
