My Monday Metrical Musings #103

Attention

What holds my son’s attention?

Sometimes I think I know
Buses, double-deckers, three-door carriages
Highway LED panels overhead
Flashing “ROAD WORKS AHEAD!”
Transport is in his blood, holding sway.

Sometimes I think I don’t know
Why numbers should be ordered
The way that he insists
That answers to multiple-choice questions
Must give equal exposure
To every numeral

Sometimes I think I know
Objects ordered his way
Makes sense within his world
Leaves him centered and content
Keeps him calm and always zen

Sometimes I wish I know
How to move him to the next
Enlightenment goal
To understand this world like the rest of us
Yet
Maybe it’s us who needs attention
To his world

So

What holds our attention?
