These Two Spools
Most days these two spools
Seem to be moving further apart
Most days these two lives
Seem to be all cinders and sparks
Some days these two spools
Look like they are one incandescent light
Some days these two lives
Look like they might get it right
But I don’t know
I really don’t
And it scares me petrifies me
Almost to the point of unraveling
When will come the final reckoning?
What is a dad to do
To help them pull through?
Stay together stay strong
When to them I no longer belong
These two spools
So precious
So fragile
So unmatched
These two lives
Like flaming swords
Collide
Causing flowers of fire
To combust
To ignite
These two spools
Tight threads
Closely intertwined
Even on days when it seems
They will rip at the seams
These two lives
Forces me daily to let go
To let God take control
Cos in my hands
It’s a train wreck
A death threat
A nuclear explosion
That can’t be right
They are too precious
To be unspooled in my clumsy hands
I must release my hold my rein
So they can bind themselves to one another
Again
And one day in heaven
I can find my way
Back to them
These Two Spools.
