My Monday Metrical Musings #294

ancient roman sculpture of god with horns

When I Was But A Lad

There were trials abound
But he saw them off
Grab them by the horns
And launched them overboard

That’s the hero in my dreams
Him that I could count on
Sure as a rod and steadfast
Like the God of the Old Testament

I think we all hope our trials
Will never surpass our inner Samson
That no matter the challenge
We’ll weather it triumphant

It’s why movies and folklores
Hold all our attention
And no one knows that better
Than my boy Chris Nolan!

I’m hoping when I walk into
The cinema this week
I will encounter heroism of old
Like those Greek mythologies I read

When I was but a lad

When I was but a lad

[Inspired by The Odyssey, 2026]
