My Monday Metrical Musings #284

cozy reading corner in an istanbul bookstore

The One I Was Meant To Read

A gazillion of them
All over the world
A gazillion nanoseconds
Then my life disappears in a whirl

What makes me think
I can read them all?
Every page every preface
Every line however small

Just because I love books
I don’t need to read everyone
Just because I love books
I don’t need to read a ton

Even if others say
This or that is a must
An epic a tome
A classic to fuss

If it doesn’t speak to me
It probably wasn’t mine
So I should put it back down
Find the one made for my time

The books I don’t need
I no longer should feel oblige
That I have to read it through
Before I sleep at night

The books I do need
Are those that breathe
New oxygen into my blood
That touches me deep

Let this from hereon
Be the reason I pick
My next book my next discovery
The one I was meant to read!
