My Monday Metrical Musings #249

Time to break my streak

Time to break my streak
As I’m one from 250
Time to pause for rest
As I’ve not been giving my best

It was always meant for fun
Not trying to impress anyone
but me. Just cos I wanted
to do something I’d never flaunted

Never thought I’ll get this far
Didn’t think I had it in me
And as I close in on 250
Maybe I never ever did

Poems had been for me
Like writing song lyrics
But the truth is that I’m
No composer extraordinary

I think it’s been a real good run
One more ‘fore the setting of the sun
Then after that it’s time to break my streak
Pause at 250 well past my peak

I think the earlier musings
Were a lot more amusing
The first 100, maybe two
Were more colourful. More true

But these past months’ lines
If I do honestly have to say
Were not much fun or creative
Dull carriages on a locomotive

I want to say I’ve got the rhythm
Certainly I did my best to rhyme
But they mostly felt oh so tired
Me their creator needed to be fired!

So after next week I’ll probably retire
These Monday Metrical tyres
Spare myself and any accidental reader
The mistake of visiting for a breather

May my rhythms return with less force
More truth and feel for a just cause
To bring beauty and humanity back to the fore
So every reader feels it right down to the core
