My Monday Metrical Musings #213

a father carrying his child on his shoulders

Son, See You On Life’s Sandy Shore

Well, son, let me tell you:

Life is no waterfall.

It’s got stings & serpents,

And all manner of scorpions.

You will often feel locked up

And trapped in a jail cell

Totally bare!

But every time know

My eyes are on you ever so.

I’m watching you

Turning boulders over for you

Venturing on your behalf into the unknown

Where no light can be seen

You will nevertheless see me.

So boy, don’t you turn your back on me.

Don’t give up on the steps of this life

Til we’re on the sandy beach

On the sun-kissed shores

Love surrounding us forever more!

[Today’s poem is inspired by Langston Hughes]
