My Monday Metrical Musings #153

a man hugging his baby on a sunny afternoon

Daddy Daddy where’s my gift?

Daddy Daddy where’s my gift?
Year after year I’m asking you this
I don’t understand why you never buy me anything
Daddy Daddy where’s my gift?

Daddy Daddy where’s my toy?
You know Lego figurines bring me endless joy
I don’t understand why you never ever buy them
Daddy Daddy where’s my toy?

Son Son where’s my hug?
Year after year, you give only a shrug
I don’t understand why you withhold your touch
Son Son where’s my hug?

Son Son where’s my kiss?
Even mighty Hercules will sometimes need this
I don’t understand why you won’t pucker your lips
Son Son where’s my kiss?

Daddy Daddy I know you love touch
Year after year you’ve given me so much
I do understand your language of affection
Daddy Daddy here’s a kiss and a hug

Son Son I know you love stuff
I once was a kid too, and I know it can be tough
When you think no gifts means Daddy doesn’t love
So Son Son, here’s your new Lego piece. Have fun!

  1. Kelvin,

I remember coming to your blog on Singaporean Childrens’ Day two or three years ago now.

The last two verses are great – coming to a greater understanding of one another.
