My Monday Metrical Musings #40

My Wish This National Day

As my nation hits the
ripe, old age of 56
Today.
I feel compelled
at 51
to tell her
Right away.

We will get thru’
I’m sure of it,
this Covid
Pandemic.
But there’s something more
I’m looking for —
a new inner
Schematic.

We’ve fought too long
to prove that
we are capable and
Strong.
But I suspect,
and indeed I fear,
we’ve been going
about it all
Wrong!

We’ve lost our soul
in hot pursuit
of wealth and endless
Pleasure.
Working hard
without a pause
leaving little
time for
Leisure.

Our families have
paid the price
relationships in
Tatters.
I’m not sure
how much longer
we can keep
these temporal
Treasures?!

Of earthen vessels
and Gucci bags.
As though they bring
Fulfillment.
Such foolishness
must end today.
Forget fireworks
skyrocketing into the
Firmament!

My wish for us
this National Day
is that we take a long
Hard look.
At how this virus pause
across the world
will change our
History book.

We’ve got 56 years
in the bag
but it’s still
Only
Just
A
Prologue.
So let’s slow down
and restore hope
to every brand new page.
Or risk writing now
Our
Final
Tragic
Epilogue!
